Equity in Gifted Education: Identification and Programming

Nisia Patalan and Karen McCay, both regional gifted coordinators in the Southwest Colorado area, will discuss equity in gifted identification and programming in local schools. They will share challenges and goals related to qualifying gifted culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) students. CLD students may not show traits of giftedness from dominant cultures or perform at advanced levels on the assessments used by traditional educational systems. Nisia Patalan and Karen McCay will explore regional and state regulations, recommendations, and actions that promote more equitable identification of our diverse gifted students.
